Will Kennedy has not only worked with some amazingly talented artists over the years, but some great producers and engineers. He recently launched a series of videos with Matt Wallace (Faith No More, Maroon 5, The Replacements). Their latest video in the series features Sun Rai (Rai Thistlethwayte of Thirsty Merc) and his original song "Chase The Clouds." He's joined by drummer Matt Chamberlain (Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Kimbra, many more). The recording was made in the control room of Matt Wallace's private studio located in the Sound City complex in Los Angeles. It is truly live. No overdubs, editing, tuning, or timing. Video and audio captured simultaneously.

Will Kennedy been working in the recording business for over a decade supported by a bachelor's degree in music from Berklee College Of Music; his major instrument was trombone. It took him a matter of mere weeks before he had built a pickup, hooked it up to an amp, and joined a rock band. Along the way he picked up guitar, drums, and even learned how to sing.

His experience in the world of recording has been similarly broad; from 24-track analog, to ADAT, to the DAW flavor of the month. SSL's, old Neve’s, new Neve’s, API’s, Quad 8's, and even consoles with names like "Sphere," and, "Einstein." During one really amazing 6-month stretch, Will took a trip through recorded media history while digitally archiving the Ray Charles catalog. Seriously. No kidding.

Will has been fortunate to work for - and in - some of the world's greatest recording studios. He cut his engineering teeth at Ocean Way in Nashville, and Right Track Recording (now MSR) in New York. He was very lucky to catch the end of the "analog era" of recording, working around some truly astounding people. The digital age has brought some amazing advances to the studio and as such Will has had a chance to not only learn, but also shape how the technology is being used. As Will says “understanding the advantages of both approaches gives me a unique perspective on recording music”.

During Will’s time in Los Angeles he has had the privilege of working on platinum records...for major labels...in big studios. He prides himself on being able to bring that "big record" sound to every client. But if rough-and-ready is what you're looking for, he’s not afraid to get a little dirt in the sauce.

Now Will works mostly out of Studio P - the space he operates in Pacoima, CA. “It's full of amazing modified and custom gear I've carefully pieced together over the years”. Including a custom analog stereo mix bus, JCF Audio Latte stereo converter, or (if analog is your cup of tea) a gorgeous restored early 70's Ampex 440B 1/4" deck.
